Globally, around one third of the food we produce is ultimately wasted.
We don’t know the full scale of food waste because food companies simply don’t have to tell anyone. Many companies know exactly what they waste but it’s up to them to decide if and when they report on it. Many others don't measure their waste at all. It might not seem like much but knowing exactly how much waste there is, is a crucial first step to reducing this industrial scale problem.
Right now, the UK has a key opportunity to tackle food waste. The UK government have considered making it a legal requirement for companies to measure and publish what they waste but have been dragging their heels and delaying. Together we can put pressure on the government to take real action.
